Who can Travel to the EU?

The possibility of a European summer holiday has been dreamt about by many in America since the beginning of the pandemic. This dream might soon become a reality (albeit with some restrictions).

The European Union has announced that travellers from the United States of America, as well as a number of other third party countries, will be able to travel to the region without requiring an essential reason, or permit.

Non-essential travel, previously banned to non-EU citizens, will be permitted for those arriving from some lower risk countries, and as America’s vaccine rollout is in its advanced stages, tourists from the USA are no longer considered particularly high risk.

The countries newly added to the EU’s safe travel list are:

  • Albania
  • Lebanon
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Taiwan
  • Hong Kong and Macau

They join the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Rwanda
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Thailand

Travellers are advised that while the European Union has made the above recommendations, individual member states are still implementing their own travel restrictions and requirements.
